Required Text: Education of the Gifted and Talented, 7th Edition, ISBN 978-0133827101
Audience: Candidates seeking the Gifted Endorsement
Description: Participants will acquire knowledge of the characteristics of gifted learners including special populations. Cognitive, social-emotional, and behavioral characteristics of gifted children necessitate different instructional designs. This course will address methods by which the unique characteristics can be addressed in instruction and learning environment. This is the foundation course for the gifted endorsement program and is a prerequisite for the other three courses.
Teacher/Candidate Prerequisites (Gifted) :
Georgia Teacher Certification (valid clear-renewable certificate)
Currently employed by a Georgia School System
A minimum of two years of successful teaching experience
Completed Endorsement Application Packet
The Gifted In-Field Endorsement Program is offered through four courses, and MUST be taken in the following order
1) Characteristics of Gifted Students
2) Methods and Materials for Teaching the Gifted
3) Assessment of Gifted Students
4) Curriculum and Program Development
