Overview:
This class is designed to give participants an overall view of the behavioral threat assessment process. We will investigate why & how violence prevention is possible, discuss the elements of an effective threat assessment & management program, and practice skills to identify, assess and manage cases involving potential threats. This class is four (4) hours.
Goals:
Understand why & how violence prevention is possible
Understand key concepts related to violence
Identify & implement the four functions of threat assessment & management processes Know the elements of an effective threat assessment & management program
Understand basic legal issues relevant to information sharing in threat cases
Develop and practice skills to identify, assess and manage cases involving potential threats
Understand:
Research and practice tell us that many potential acts of violence are often detectable and preventable
Threat assessment and management processes have evolved as a standard of practice for proactive approaches to prevention of violence impacting schools
Threat assessment and management processes are designed to identify and assist persons in need as early as possible
Team members need a solid foundation for understanding violence as well as principles and practices for effective threat management
