"Motivational Strategies "What Would Mean the World to You?"
How to get students to complete the work you assign - Dr. Laura Riffel, Behavior Expert

We will explore what motivates students to complete the work we are asking them to do. This is based on research by Jeannie Ramirez and me started in 2004 and Dr. Eggleston and I have been adding and compiling the research since that time.

In 2012, I read a book by Chapman and White called “The Five Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace. Chapman and White found adults are motivated by the following: Words of affirmation, Quality time, Acts of service, Gifts, Physical touch.

Dr. Eggleston and I wondered if student motivation is the same. We found it is not and we will share with you what motivates students based on asking students around the world the same question: “What would mean the world to you? What could an adult give you that would let you know you had done a good job? PS- It can’t cost money.”

We will share a book with you filled with the answers and also give you some ideas for group contingency-group reinforcement.
