Course Description More Details
The NWGA RESA Alternative Leadership Program provides individuals an opportunity to obtain Educational Leadership certification at both the Tier I and Tier II levels. The certificate program is a partnership between the leadership candidate, the employing school district, and Northwest RESA that assists candidates in developing the GaPSC identified leadership knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Acceptance in this program requires a letter of recommendation from the superintendent (of the employing district) or his/her direct designee.
The program is one year in length and requires a significant commitment of time. Tier I applicants must be in a leadership position at the school or district level for at least one half-day each day for admission into and for the duration of the program. (Full-time classroom teachers are excluded from the program since it is performance-based and requires candidates to work on leadership tasks and experiences during the day.) Tier II candidates must be in a full-time leadership position at the school or district level, preferably in a position in a district requiring professional, performance-based leadership certification at the Tier II level. Additionally, the district/LUA assures that the candidate will be supported in the program, including the resources of time and access to information required for the candidate to meet program standards. Both Tier I and Tier II candidates must currently hold a level 5 or higher GaPSC educator certificate with Tier II candidates already holding an Educational Leadership Tier I certificate. Non-educator participation in this program is allowable and will be planned in cooperation between the employing school district and Northwest Georgia RESA.
