Join us for this feature series for just for Assistant Principals! Dr. Mark Wilson will facilitate four interactive and engaging sessions to support the professional growth and critical role of the AP. Lunch is provided for all sessions.

SESSION 1: "WHAT GREAT APs DO (AND DON'T DO)." AUGUST 27, 2024
Let’s get right to it! To do a good job, you need to know what your job is! Yes, they gave you a job description and some guidelines, but there are a number of other expectations for Assistant Principals. Dr. Mark Wilson leads you through an interactive exploration of what your job is... and what it is not.
SESSION 2: "WHY IS EVERYBODY ACTING THIS WAY?" NOVEMBER 12, 2024
Much of your job is about behavior... motivating those around you to behave in ways that lead them to success, spending time with others when their behaviors fail to meet the expectations. You spend much of your time on behavior, but most school administrators have had limited training in recognizing, understanding, and influencing behaviors. Dr. Mark Wilson will lead you in an interactive session to support your work and encourage your continuous pursuit of better understanding why people... (you too!)... act as they do.

SESSION 3: "SYSTEMS DON'T BURN OUT AS QUICKLY AS PEOPLE DO." FEBRUARY 11, 2025
One of the first lessons of school administration is... you are going to run out of money, time and energy much quicker than you thought. People get jobs as school administrators by being those who can get things done. Congratulations! Now, you have a job in which your success is determined instead by how effectively you can get others to do their jobs. Leadership isn’t just about getting tasks done; it’s about building systems that ensure tasks are done now, in the future, and even when you’re not around. Dr. Mark Wilson will lead you in an exploration of systems thinking, and how your job as an AP isn’t to make everyone else’s job easier. The best administrators see their world in a split-screen view; one eye on the now, and the other on how we can do it more effectively. Join us for this session about organization and its importance for the effective school.

SESSION 4: "DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIPS IS THE PATH TO YOUR GREATEST POWER." MARCH 12, 2025
You’ve always heard in leadership that the key is relationships. That’s correct, but why? And, how? If you’re instinctively good at building relationships do you know how to teach someone who isn’t? And, since your job is to influence others, it isn’t just your relationships that matter to you; it’s the relationships that your teachers have with students and the teachers have with their peers, and those between students as well. You don’t arrive by only having good relationships; you become an effective leader when you also can teach others about relationships. Dr. Mark Wilson has led hundreds of workshops with thousands of school leaders on the topic of relationships. He will take you on an interactive journey that will leave you with steps to success in building relationships and teaching others how to do the same.
